Make the shake last so it stays cold and thick when the burgers and fries are ready.
How to make it
- Start with the fries—they take the longest. Heat the oven to 425°F. Cut the potatoes into thin strips, then toss them with the oil, salt, paprika and garlic powder. Spread them in one layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Make the patties. Gently mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder into the ground beef. Don't overwork it. Form four patties, then press your thumb into the center of each one so they don't puff up.
- Cook the burgers. Put the patties in a hot skillet or on the grill for 3–4 minutes per side. Add a slice of cheese during the last minute so it melts. Toast the buns cut-side down in the skillet.
- Build the burgers. Add your favorite toppings and sauces to each one.
- Make the shake last so it stays thick. Blend the ice cream, milk and chocolate syrup, if you're using it, for about 30 seconds. Pour into tall glasses and add whipped cream if you like.
Best served fresh
Bring the burgers, hot fries and cold shakes to the table as soon as everything is ready.
Save the leftovers
Cooked patties keep in the fridge for 3 days. Reheat fries in the oven or air fryer to crisp them back up—the microwave makes them soggy.
