Sugar cookies iced like candy corn

A zip-top bag with the corner snipped works great as a piping bag.

How to make it

  1. Heat the oven. Set it to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Make the dough. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt. Beat the butter and sugar fluffy, beat in the egg and vanilla, then stir in the dry stuff.
  3. Shape triangles. Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then pinch one end to make a triangle-ish candy corn shape. Flatten slightly.
  4. Bake. Bake 8–10 minutes until just set — don't brown them. Cool completely.
  5. Ice them. Mix powdered sugar and milk into a thick icing. Split into 3 bowls: leave one white, color one orange, one yellow. Ice each cookie in 3 stripes — white tip, orange middle, yellow base. Let set 1 hour.
